We know Christmas is approaching when the temperature drops and snow begins to fall. Although Thanksgiving was just last week, the holiday season is already here! Christmas trees, lights, and snowmen. have been spotted throughout the community, especially around Lakeview High School.
When December rolls around, the Bulldogs are not afraid to show their holiday spirit. This week, students are preparing for the annual door decorating contest. This competition not only implements creativity but excitement and teamwork as well! Every sixth-period class will get the chance to showcase their door throughout the week. After this, polls will be released, allowing students to vote for the door with the most Christmas spirit.
When asking Lakeview what their favorite part of Christmas is, senior Kennedy Bartlett had much to say. She is constantly fulfilled with the positivity the month brings, claiming her favorite part is being “able to spend time with [her] whole family.” Bartlett continues, saying “We always get matching pajamas for everyone and I’ve always loved that tradition. My aunt makes everyone breakfast while we all open our gifts. It is always nice to get everyone together to celebrate!” From this, it is clear she is more than excited to see what this year brings.
Bartlett is not the only student filled with holiday cheer, senior Reagan Price is also looking forward to celebrating Christmas this year. She loves every aspect of Christmas, stating her favorite part is “waking up and having the anticipation of walking to my living room to see all the presents under the tree! I love being able to spend quality time with my family and see everyone enjoying their gifts.” Price loves this holiday, and hopes to see more gifts under the tree this year!
Although every holiday creates memories and brings people together, Christmas stands out the most. Sophomore Nolan Allen says his favorite memory is “waiting around the Christmas tree in the morning with my sister. We always wake up super early and wait for our parents to join us. My favorite memory is taking turns hiding the elf with my sister. We always try to pick the hardest spots to find.” Memories are very special, especially around this time of year.
This holiday is about giving back to the community or people you love. One way to do this is by donating to local charities! For example, the Salvation Army always collects money around this time of year. You can find this organization outside of the mall and other popular stores. The Holiday Helpers Foundation is also a popular charity in Cortland. This organization collects old toys, providing gifts for families in need.
On December 4th, the Lakeview community joined at former superintendent Bob Wilson’s house to show respect for everything he had accomplished. Multiple members of the community, along with the Lakeview band and volleyball team made an appearance. After a heartfelt video and a drum roll, Wilson’s house lit up with blue and white Christmas Lights! It truly was a beautiful experience. After the surprise, hot chocolate and cookies were served, allowing everyone to warm up before going home.
That was not the only surprising event this week. The next day, Lakeview had its first snow day of the season! When asking some Bulldogs what they thought about this day off, senior Addison Nicholas was more than excited. She stated, “I was so happy because I got more time to catch up on my schoolwork and an extra day to relax!” If one thing is for sure, Lakeview loves its snow days!
Christmas is a special holiday, celebrated by many people all over the world. This holiday not only brings family and friends together but creates stronger bonds as well. Lakeview is proud to show off its holiday spirit, and you should be too! We hope everyone has a fun and safe Christmas and an even better New Year!
