The ski season has finally come. With snow hitting the ground early, the Bulldogs are gearing up for a good season. The Lakeview Ski Club allows students to travel with their classmates to the ski resort Peek’n Peak, located in western New York. Starting in January, the club will travel every Wednesday for 4 weeks to get in as much fun as they can. Each day after school, the club will load onto the bus and travel up to the slopes where they spend 4-5 hours exploring the park.
After asking some questions about the excitement for the upcoming ski season, Junior Nora Lewis said, “I can’t wait to hit the slopes with my friends again this season! With all the snow coming our way, it’s going to be a great time! I enjoy every bit of it, traveling up, snowboarding, being with my friends, and even eating.”
With Lewis being a returning member for the last 2 years, she is excited to return to the slopes with her friends. Her enthusiasm shows all the factors that will tie into the 2024-2025 ski season.
The drought of a typical Wednesday at school, shown by the same routine of classes and the constant pressure of upcoming assignments, usually results in a feeling of pressure and a sense of being overwhelmed. However, Lakeview makes it obvious that it is essential to remember that even the most ordinary days can be transformed into extraordinary experiences, especially when they embrace the beauty of nature and the thrill of adventure at Peek’n Peak.
Ava Pappas, also a Junior, is returning for her second year and says she has had no complaints with her experiences so far. I asked what makes Lakeview’s ski club special. Pappas stated, “Ski club is such a great after-school activity. I really enjoy going to Peek’n Peak with my friends and spending hours skiing and talking. I’ve always had a passion for skiing and am so glad I get to express it through this school club with my classmates.”
When thinking of an after-school activity, people normally don’t imagine a bus full of students driving about 2 hours to a ski resort for the rest of the evening. This club is so spontaneous and adventurous is what pulls people in. Who wouldn’t want to ski on a Wednesday after school?
Not all students have been involved in the program as long as Lewis and Pappas. Adding to the upcoming excitement, Annalise Lowe, a freshman, has been eager for winter to come so she can make fresh memories and express her passion for being on the slopes.
Lowe was asked why she decided to join the club and she replied, “I decided to do ski club because I have been skiing since I was a kid and I enjoy being able to do something I love. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and it has always been something I liked to do.”
The club allows students to hang out with friends while enjoying a fun seasonal activity. Skiing can be hard to schedule with students’ schedules, but the school club gives the students the opportunity to travel up and enjoy themselves all in one day. Lowe also says how she has been skiing since she was a kid. Anyone can participate. It doesn’t matter if they’ve been skiing for years or have never touched skis before.
For those contemplating joining the ski club, other students highly recommended it to try it out. Although initial attempts may prove challenging, the overall experience and memories created are invaluable. The combination of fun, social interaction, and learning makes the ski club a worthwhile opportunity.
