On January 23rd, three Lakeview indoor track runners will be seizing the opportunity to run at the brand new Student Recreation and Wellness Center at Warren G. Harding High School.
Seniors Jake Langmeyer, Griffin Oravec, and Mason Wheeler have worked diligently throughout their high school years in order to make it to where they are today. Each one of these students made it all the way to the state championship for cross country, and also participate in indoor and outdoor track. This upcoming Thursday, the three of them will be running for the first time of the indoor track season.
These three students have high expectations for the new facility located in Warren. Langmeyer stated, “After hearing so much about this new facility I have great expectations for it. They appear to have a lot of brand new equipment to use and I am particularly interested in the track and the weight room. As for the race in particular, I am confident in my abilities that no matter what track I am racing on I will be able to perform to the best of my abilities. I have done a lot of training for this, I usually go on a run every morning. Wish me luck at the upcoming race.”
It is crucial that our runners are prepared for each race they participate in. Most of them have routines and special workouts they do in order to maintain their health. Oravec stated, “I believe that physical health is one of the most important things people can focus on. In order to run cross country and track, I have to workout and eat healthy to keep my body in good shape. Before every race I always make sure I have stretched, eaten, and have plenty of water. For this race in particular, I will definitely make sure I have everything I need leading up to the big day. I know that my teammates Mason and Jake do the same as well, so I am confident that all three of us are going to do great in this upcoming race.”
As important as physical health is for a race, having a good mental state before a race is also crucial as well. Wheeler stated, “Before every race it is really important to make sure you have a good mindset. You should never say things like I can’t do this or I am not good enough. I think that if you remain optimistic and believe in yourself that you can accomplish pretty much anything. I know that personally I keep a mindset that allows me to be self assured that I will perform at my best, and only my best, at every race I run in. Given that it is my senior year and I have been running throughout high school, I would say I have learned a lot in the past few years. One of the best things I learned was to always be confident in myself. For the upcoming race at Warren G. Harding, I will use this mechanism to assure I am fully prepared for the race.”
Make sure to come out and support your fellow Bulldogs at Warren G. Harding High School on January 23rd. This race will be the opening race for our three Lakeview boys senior indoor track season, so it would be great to see a lot of supporters in the stands. These three young men have put in extremely hard work both mentally and physically for many years so it is only right that we support them on the final steps of their journey. Good luck to Mason Wheeler, Jake Langmeyer, and Griffin Oravec!
