Winter is starting to sneak up on us, with only 12 days till it is officially winter season. Not only is winter coming up on us, but so is Christmas. The Lakeview Bulldogs are all getting ready to be in the Christmas spirit. There are so many Christmas activities that are starting up. Even around the school. Along with that, the bulldogs have their own way of enjoying winter and the holidays.
The Bulldogs still have a couple weeks until their Christmas break, but on top of all the school stress they are still making time to have some fun in the snow. There has even started to be some snow on the ground, which leads us to our first winter activity, which is playing in the snow. There are lots of different activities that just relate to snow. Such as snowman building, snowball fights, sled riding, and skiing.
Junior Katarina Candor says, “Even though winter is very cold and sometimes miserable, it has many perks to it. My favorite winter activity is skiing. I go up to Peak n Peak multiple times a year to go skiing with my friends and family. I also really enjoy having snowball fights with my little siblings, it just adds fun to the day. Another thing I am looking forward to is going and looking at Christmas lights. My family and I go and look at Christmas lights as a family every year, we get hot chocolate and enjoy our time together. Overall I am just really excited to be in the Christmas spirit and enjoy my time off with family and friends.”
Although there are lots of things to do outside during the winter, there are also lots of things to do inside that can be enjoyable for you and your family.
According to Junior Cassie Klotz, “Watching Christmas movies is something I love about Christmas time. It is so enjoyable to sit on my couch with hot chocolate and watch Christmas movies. There are so many different movies that you never get bored. There are movies that I used to watch as a kid and still enjoy to this day and there are movies that I find new each year.”
Everyone has their way of enjoying the holidays and the winter, while others have similar traditions that they do. Everyone’s traditions are fun to them and others might not enjoy them as much as you, but that’s okay!
Senior Elisa Kotsatos says, “Every year my family and I go to the Cleveland Zoo to look at Christmas lights along with the animals. We bake cookies and watch Christmas movies as a family. Going to Kraynaks is also something really fun that we do to get into the Christmas spirit. I am getting to spend time with my family and friends, as a family we throw a big Christmas Party. With my friends, we always have a little get-together to build gingerbread houses and celebrate the holidays. All around, I just love how the holidays always bring people together to participate in exciting activities.”
School wide the activities are starting up as well. The teachers and students love to do things together as a school to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. Something that was just new last year was a door decorating contest, every 6th-period class gets an opportunity to decorate their door with Christmas spirit. The students seem to enjoy this. Another great thing the school does is a Christmas spirit week for the students. This takes the stress out of all the tests and makes things more fun around the school. The Christmas spirit week for this year is Monday – Picture Day (wear your favorite flannel), Tuesday- Whiteout (In honor of Mr. Clark), Wednesday – Polar Express (PJ), Thursday- Christmas Crazy (any Christmas attire), Friday – Santa V Elves. There are also lots of Christmas decorations all around the school, helping the teachers and students get into the spirit.
