This year students from the class of 2025 were inducted into Lakeview’s very own National Honors Society! Currently, there are seventy-two members. The National Honors Society is run by science teacher, Sara Dager-Smith. This group is composed of only upperclassmen. On Tuesday, November 7th the school held its annual tapping ceremony. This is where previously selected seniors have the responsibility of letting the juniors know if they have the privilege of joining National Honors Society. Recipients are given a rose, signaling that they were accepted! This year, the official induction ceremony took place November 17th in the auditorium. The National Honors Society is a respected group throughout the community for its contributions and leadership.
I asked Junior Molly Stuart: What does being a part of the National Honors Society mean to you? Stuart responded, “Not everyone has the opportunity to be a part of this group, so it is very special to me. I love doing activities and services that incorporate the four pillars for our community!”
There are high expectations set in place for this group, and lots of tasks that need to be completed. The first thing that students handled was a Daffins chocolate bar fundraiser. Each member was assigned a box, and had a goal to sell at least thirty-six dollars. Most inductees were able to sell their chocolate around school, or by reaching out to the community. The Bulldog’s National Honors Society will also be participating in multiple forms of service projects. These could range from students helping tutor others during school or study halls, picking up extra community service hours, joining Earth Day clean-ups, or even stuff like volunteering to walk shelter dogs.
On top of this, both Mrs. Dager-Smith and NHS members are planning a Senior Citizens Game Night! This is the main event being hosted by NHS this year. Last year, students organized a Senior Citizen Prom, but this year will be different. The game night is scheduled to be hosted on Saturday, April 6th from one to four. Students will all pitch in by bringing games, food, prizes, and by decorating the cafeteria. Lakeview’s NHS hopes to provide its community with a fun night and to put a smile on people’s faces. Posters with details on the event will be hung up in multiple businesses to make sure people are aware of the upcoming event.
I asked Junior and member of Lakeview’s National Honors Society, Kennedy Bartlett: What about the game night are you most looking forward to? Bartlett responded, “My favorite part about this event will definitely be seeing the senior citizens having fun and getting to get out and do something they will enjoy with their friends.”
The game night will not just be composed of board games, but also have minute-to-win-it games, solar eclipse information, card games, and bingo. This way people have tons of tables and options to keep them occupied. Each table will present a different game, and prize. There is a variety of games people can choose from either based on the prize or the game itself. Either way people will not only have one option, and if they happen to want a break from the games that issue is also taken care of. There will be stands with food, snacks, and drinks. The food ranges from savory to sweet in order to meet the wants of everybody. Getting back to the games, students will also be playing them with anyone who chooses to attend. If you or anyone you know is interested make sure the RSVP date of April 3rd, is kept in mind. In order to RSVP or ask any questions you may have you can reach Lakeview High School’s office at 330-637-4921.
