During the winter Lakeview local school hosts a Winter Wonder dance that students in the grades 9-12 can attend. This dance is a fun, exciting, and magical time for the Lakeview students. Unfortunately, due to low staffing, there will not be any winter wonders this year. This has left many Lakeview students upset and they are trying to figure out a way they can host it through one of our school committees.
I asked Senior Ellie Davies How do you feel about there being no winter wonders in your last year of high school? Davies states, “I was actually really looking forward to winter wonders since its my last year at Lakeview. It is also fun to dress up and dance alongside my friends. I’m disappointed that there won’t be one this year but I am hoping that Executive committee will be able to work something out!! There are a lot of dance themes they could do in order to sell more tickets and save the dance.”
Senior Emerson Hyde also goes on to say “with it being my senior year, which means my last year of high school, I wanted to make sure that I include myself in everything. I wanted to make the best memories by attending everything I possibly could, this includes winter wonders. When I heard that winter wonders weren’t happening this year, I was upset. The thought of getting ready, taking pictures, and being able to hang out with some of my best friends excited me. It’s my senior year and they are taking away opportunities for us seniors is infuriating. Even though I haven’t attended winter wonders in the past I was looking forward to this years dance, my senior year.”
This has made not only seniors but underclassman upset about the dance as well.
I asked Sophomore Isabella Isenberg How she feels about there being no more dance. She states, “It makes me really upset knowing that there will be no dance this year. I was really looking forward to it and already had a dress picked out. I hope one of our committee members will make a dance happen so I can experience it one last time with my friends. The thought of getting ready and seeing all of my friends in their dresses makes me excited so I really hope that they come through with a dance for not just all of the students but for the seniors as well.”
The Executive committee for Lakeview high school is doing all they can to make sure a dance can happen for all the students of Lakeview High school. The dance is a great time for the student to get together with friends and dance the night way. This also gives the Senior class of 2024 the last time to ever experience a winter formal.
I asked Executive committee member Abby Sulc what the executive committee is trying to do to make the winter wonders happen this winter. Sulc replies, “We have been trying really hard to get all of the members on board with putting a dance together. I personally really want there to be winter wonders so I can have fun with my friends. I can’t promise anything but the committee is trying the best they can and doing all they can to try to get permission and the props to make this dance come alive.”
Having the winter formal would make all of the students of Lakeview High school have something to look forward to come winter. It is always fun getting dressed up and going to a dance with your friends. Let’s hope that the Lakeview Executive committee follows through with a plan to have a dance this December!!
