The end of senior year is rapidly approaching, and as it nears we like to feature the outstanding students who have evidently made a lasting and positive impact on Lakeview High School. Among these remarkable individuals is senior Lilli Smith, a committed athlete, student, and friend whose leadership, passion, and energy have truly left a lasting impression on everyone around her.
Smith has spent her four years at Lakeview High School embracing opportunities for both academic and personal growth. Known for her determination on the soccer field, on the wrestling mat, and her positive attitude in the classroom, she has made a name for herself as someone who puts her whole heart into everything she does.
When reflecting on her time at Lakeview, Smith recalls one moment that stands out from her high school journey: “My favorite moment at Lakeview was when we got to go to regionals with my soccer team my freshman year,” she explains. “Even though we ended up losing, we still made it super far, and it was amazing to experience that.”
This experience taught Smith the power of dedication and the importance of celebrating personal and team achievements, regardless of the outcome.
In addition to athletics, Smith has undoubtedly thrived academically, guided by the positive influence of her teachers, and has built strong bonds with both them and her classmates.
One teacher in particular, Carrie Schlatt, has had a profound impact on her: “Mrs. Schlatt has influenced me the most because she has shown that you can be super hyper and have a billion things going on in your head at once but still actually get things done and be smart.”
This sticks with Smith, serving as a reminder there is strength in being passionate and determined, even when life feels overwhelming.
Throughout her high school career, Smith has demonstrated that balance is key. Whether it’s staying focused in the classroom or spending time with friends, she’s learned how to make each moment count.
As graduation approaches, Smith has already mapped out an ambitious path for the future. Her love for animals and science has led her toward a career in veterinary medicine, with a particular interest in trauma care.
Smith shares, “My plans after graduation are to attend Kent State University for my undergraduate, then hopefully get into Ohio State University’s veterinary medicine, and lastly complete my residency to become a trauma specialist.”
Her goals both reflect her compassion and curiosity, two qualities that have guided her since freshman year. Smith’s ability to stay driven while maintaining a positive outlook is something both her peers and teachers admire. She approaches challenges with determination and sees setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow.
While Smith is excited for what lies ahead, she admits that leaving Lakeview will be bittersweet. Still, she is ready to take on new challenges and make an even bigger impact beyond the school she’s called home.
Before saying goodbye, Smith offers advice for the underclassmen who will soon follow in her footsteps: “My advice to upcoming freshmen is to get your work over with and enjoy your off days,” she explains. “Some of the friends you have right now will stay with you throughout high school and most won’t, but don’t sweat gaining and losing relationships, it’s all a part of life.”
Lakeview High School celebrates Smith for her achievements, her ambition, and the positive energy she’s brought to the school. Wherever life takes her next, she will carry with her the lessons, laughter, and memories that made these years unforgettable, and she’ll undoubtedly continue to inspire others just as she has inspired those lucky enough to know her.
