While we are starting to wind down the year, we want to recognize one of our seniors Gunner Derr. Derr has been a proud member of Lakeview high school his whole life and has had some of his best memories while attending Lakeview. Derr is excited to move on to his next chapter in life but sad to see all the memories slowly diminish.
Derr’s next chapter in life is going to be to complete an online college degree. While he pursues his online degree in business, Derr will also be working to save money for his future. He wants to start woking in the landscaping field to start and then later after obtaining his degree he would like to become a business owner.
Derr states, “I have always liked to be outside doing landscaping or building things, so I would like to after getting my degree own my own business so I can make good money and stay debt free.”
During Derr’s time at Lakeview high school he has not just been a leader in the school he was also a leader on the field. This was Derr’s 4th year playing for Lakeview football and he has enjoyed every minute he was on that field. Derr has not only played just in high school he has played football for all of his life and knows the game very well. Even though Derr is done playing now he likes to stay in touch with the game by watching NFL and College football. Derr was a leader on both defense and offense for the bulldogs while playing the line. With his great performances on the field he was awarded with 2 time first team all conference, first team all county, 2 time all northeast inland honorable mention, team mvp, offensive mvp, defensive trenchmen of the year, and has lettered all 4 years. Derr will never forget his achievements and will remember his Lakeview football memories for the rest if his life.
There is one thing Derr wishes he would have done at the start of his time at Lakeview. Derr explains, “If I could go back in time to the start of my high school career I wish I would have played more sports.”
One of Derr’s fellow teammates and friend, Haiden Shardy, reflects on memories they have had together. Shardy explains, “Gunner is always up to do something fun and he’s a good friend cause he will help you with anything you ask him to do. My favorite memory with Gunner is when we were riding four wheelers and going through Shenango lake when the water was really low and we were skimming the water.”
Derr has also made many great memories with another one of his close friends Hayden Newton. Newton emphasizes, “Gunner is a great friend of mine he is always up for anything. He is fun to play video games and go to the gym with. I liked playing alongside him for four years on the football field. My favorite memory with Gunner is when we went to the school and pulled each other around on a sled in the parking lot after a huge snow storm.”
During Derr’s time at Lakeview he has made so many new memories and met so many new people. He will never forgot all the great times he’s had in the classroom or up on the football field. He has created many new relationships with people that he will not forget. He just hopes as his time at Lakeview comes to a close he does not draw apart from the current and new relationships he has made.
We wish you the best of luck, Derr! We can’t wait to see what you do in the next steps of your life.
