On December 3rd, Lakeview sophomores had the opportunity to take a trip to TCTC. During this trip, students explored various career programs that held the most interest to the individual and also to see if TCTC was the right choice for them.
Trumbull Career & Technical Center, or TCTC, is a alternative school that focuses more on career based classes more than the regular high school. Sophomores have the option to attend TCTC for their junior and senior year in a career choice that suits them the best. There are diverse programs at TCTC, all the way from construction to pre-nursing in the pharmacy or phlebotomy industry. Many students choose to come here because it is a great opportunity and also to get ahead in their career journey.
Lakeview Guidance Counsler Trista Gustas gave good insight on what really happened on this trip, “The annual trip is for sophomores that are strongly interested in TCTC and learning more about what a career-tech education has to offer. During this in-person visit, students take a more in depth look at three programs of their choice, ultimately deciding if TCTC is a good fit for them and choosing one program for which they can apply to for their junior/senior year. Students can also learn about other options and opportunities that TCTC has available, and on many different career paths as students continue to develop their career plan for after high school.”
Gustas continues on about how this was a great opportunity for many students, “Students came back with a lot of valuable information and feedback from this trip to help them weigh their options and choose what pathway will be best suited for them. This is just one of the many great options that are available for our students as part of our career development at Lakeview!”
Many students shared exciting news when asked about TCTC. Lakeview sophomore Nina Petracco shares what she is did at TCTC and what her plans are for the future, “I visited pharmacy technician, exercise science, and phlebotomy technician. My favorite was the pharmacy tech program. My plans for the future as of now is to go to TCTC for pharmacy tech and then go to college for my undergraduate, then apply to PA school.”
Many students have been thinking about what they going to do in the future and by going on this trip to TCTC, it takes them a step forward into the process. This trip helped students decide if they are going to stay here at Lakeview or to get ahead in the career of their choice at TCTC.
Sophomore Payton Miller also shared about how TCTC is a great option for her, “I visited veterinary science, pharmacy tech, and dental assistance. My favorite would be veterinary science because I like animals. I did like TCTC, it was good and just really big. I want to be a veterinarian so I will be applying for TCTC.”
This trip has helped many students on what they might to for their future career. Opportunities like these shouldn’t be missed out on.
TCTC is hosting an open house on December 11th from 6-8pm for anyone who needed a closer look into other programs. Anyone who is registering for TCTC can submit their application from the start of open house to January 9th of next year. Parent consent forms are also due January 9th for anyone who applied for TCTC. Sophomores can apply for TCTC and if any student changes their mind then they can withdraw their application at any time.
Freshman will also get to experience this opportunity next year to visit TCTC. Students can start looking into these programs offered at TCTC to see if this is something they might be interested in. It is important that 9th and 10th grade students figure out what they might be interested in for their future career and the best time is to start now.
Have the best of luck!
