We know winter break is near when snow starts to fall and students begin counting down the days until the final bell. Although December just began, the excitement for the holidays, and a well deserved break, is already buzzing through the halls of Lakeview High School.
When winter rolls around, the Bulldogs are always ready for some warm gatherings and festive adventures! Between studying for exams and wrapping up the semester, many Lakeview students are already planning what to do once that final bell rings. After months of long nights and busy schedules, a little rest feels well-earned. This year, instead of traveling far from home, many plan to enjoy a quieter, more relaxed break with their families. Whether it’s spending time with siblings, catching up on rest, or finally having time for hobbies, everyone seems to have a plan for how to make the most of their days at home.
Sophomore Jillian Marble is looking forward to spending her upcoming break unwinding at home after what she describes as a busy but rewarding semester. For her, the time off is a chance to recharge and enjoy all the warmth and joy the season brings. Marble shares that she plans to “sleep in, watch my favorite shows, and spend time with my family.”
Marble added that having time away from academic pressures is something she values every year: “it is nice to have a break where I can just spend time at home and not worry about school.” Relaxation after a difficult semester is something every student needs, serving as a reminder that balance is just as important as hard work.
Other Lakeview students are also looking forward to a break full of relaxation. Senior Lilli Smith is focusing on helping at home during break and making the most of her family’s traditions.
Smith explains that she is going to, “help my mom decorate for Christmas and bake cookies with my family.”
Beyond the fun, Smith appreciates how these simple traditions remind her to slow down and enjoy quality time with her loved ones: “it is something we do every year and it always brings us closer together.” For Smith, spending time with her family and keeping their traditions alive makes the season meaningful.
Like many of her classmates, Senior Leah Clark is looking forward to a quiet, slower paced break spent with friends and family. After a busy semester, she is looking forward to having time to relax without the pressure of deadlines or exams: “I am excited to hang out with my friends and maybe have a few sleepovers or go out to dinner. We don’t always get a chance to see each other much during the school year, so it’ll be nice to catch up.”
Clark explained that even simple moments, like dinners and sleepovers with friends, help her feel more relaxed and happy. For Clark, the best part of winter break is staying close to home and making memories with the people who matter most.
As the semester draws to a close, the excitement across Lakeview High School is unmistakable. From door decorating contests, to snow days, to Christmas concerts, the holiday spirit seems to bring everyone closer together. Both teachers and students look forward to slowing down and enjoying a well-earned break. Amidst the excitement for break, Lakeview students are reminded that the true meaning of winter break is not only found in trips or gifts, but in the moments that bring laughter and connection. As winter break approaches, I wish every student, staff member, and family a happy holiday season and an amazing start to the New Year!
