Over the years, the Lakeview cheer team has performed many halftime dances during the basketball season. They have included one fun dance every year, featuring junior and senior boys. This year, however, they decided to change things up by inviting their teachers to join their halftime performance. The Lakeview cheerleaders dedicate countless hours to supporting their team throughout the basketball season, whether they are cheering from the sidelines, practicing routines, or putting in long hours of practice. Lakeview High School teachers also work hard year-round to help their students succeed in the classroom while continuing to support Lakeview athletics. Including the teachers in this year’s pep rally and halftime performance was a creative and exciting way to highlight the strong sense of unity and school spirit that Lakeview proudly represents.
The teachers had a good time learning the dance and being able to share this experience with their students and coworkers. It included the teachers in something unforgettable and created memories for all of Lakeview High School.
Social Studies teacher Cam Carson explained, “I love being asked to do things like this; these types of things are great for the high school experience. My coaches did a great job getting me prepared, so huge shout-out to Mya, Joss, Giana, and Ashlyn.”
Carson explained that experiences like these really shape the high school experience and create memories for everyone. He shared that he had a good time practicing and doing this, while also recognizing the cheerleaders who made up the dance and took the time to teach it to him.
The senior cheerleaders got together on their own time and made up this dance for the teachers. It was a fun way for the seniors to bond before their season was over. They wanted to make this dance enjoyable for everyone and not too hard for our staff.
Senior cheerleader Joss Burkey stated, “I really enjoyed getting the chance to make up the teacher’s dance. It was a fun dance to put together, and fun to watch the teachers learn it. I am glad we did a teacher’s dance for my last year!”
Burkey explained that she had a good time getting together with the other seniors to make up an enjoyable dance and had fun watching the teachers try to get the hang of it. It was a fun idea to bring into the cheerleading program this year, and it was fun to perform. It is a valuable experience that you don’t always realize until it’s over, but it’s fun to be a part of.
The Varsity cheerleaders scoured the school asking teachers to participate in the pep rally dance. They explained what it was for and when practices were, but the teachers didn’t know what was in store for them until they showed up to practice.
Teacher Mark Swinning explained, “It was really fun with the practices being quite the learning experience, and the pep rally was a really motivational moment, especially with all the work that was put in and a great experience learning all the ins and outs of this dance that I wasn’t informed about prior.”
As Swinning stated, the dance held unexpected but fun surprises that brought laughter into the pep rally. It was fun for Lakeview to watch their teachers dance, and they made memories that the cheerleaders and teachers will value. It was overall just a fun experience, and we are glad the teachers participated even when they didn’t know what they were getting themselves into.
The teacher dance was more than just a halftime performance; it was a celebration of community, teamwork, and school pride. Bringing students and teachers together on the same stage showed just how special the bond is at Lakeview High School. From the laughter during practices to the cheers from the crowd, this unique experience reminded everyone what makes Lakeview such a spirited and connected place to learn, teach, and grow.
