The Lakeview High School boys track team is hitting the ground running this season, showcasing determination and teamwork to set new records. The Bulldogs are ready to make a mark on every event, whether it’s sprints or distance, jumps or throws. As the season begins, the team has clear goals of pushing beyond their limits and representing Lakeview with pride, whether on or off the track.
This boys’ team is guided by Coach Sean Voorhies, who expresses some words on what he has done to prepare the team for the season and what he hopes the team achieves: “The boys’ team worked over the winter by going to YSU on Wednesday nights and competing in Warren Indoor Track meets. My goals this year for the team involve the process, not outcomes. Such as, our goal is to have near-perfect practice attendance, finish your events at meets, be dependable, communicate with coaches, start to learn about the science behind sprinting, jumping, and throwing, sleep, nutrition, recovery, etc.”
Each runner has different ways of preparing for the season and different motivations as well. Coach Voorhies has done an excellent job of fitting each athlete’s needs. His ability to create a supportive training environment has helped each runner reach their full potential.
One of the athletes, senior Calan Cunningham, expresses how he feels going into his last season at Lakeview and what he hopes to achieve, “As a senior this track season, I look forward to accomplishing many things like getting new PR’s for myself and working hard at extending my jumps. Being a senior this year, it’s pretty crazy to think about all the memories and good times I’ve had, but with all the hard work and time I’ve put in, I’m excited to leave it all out there.”
For Cunningham and other seniors, being a senior is a surreal feeling that makes these athletes realize that moments like these are what count most, inspiring them to lead by example and leave a lasting impact on the younger members of the team.
For track athletes, it is not just about putting in the work and competing, but it is also about setting goals and taking pride in what you’ve already accomplished.
Junior Noah Engle, who already has achieved a lot this year, such as breaking a record, goes into detail about what else he is looking forward to accomplishing and also expresses what he has accomplished so far, “This outdoor season, I am looking forward to breaking the 100-meter dash school record. It starts with this season opening up with beating the 200-meter dash record, but it definitely is not stopping there. I am going to continue working every day I can on everything that could just give me the extra push to succeed. I am excited for what our team has this year and have big hopes on how the track team will dominate this coming season.”
Engle’s drive and confidence reflect the energy surrounding the Lakeview boys’ track team as they prepare for what could be a standout season. With leaders like Engle setting the pace, the Bulldogs are ready to chase new records and make their mark on the track.
With the team’s drive, sense of teamwork, and pride in representing Lakeview, the Bulldogs team is prepared to continue at the start of their season. Each practice and meet not only reflects their dedication towards this sport but also underscores the bond these teams share as they head towards the same goal. As they chase new records and unforgettable memories, the Lakeview boys’ track team is determined to leave a lasting mark as they strive to represent the spirit of true champions.
