When spring break rolls around, the Lakeview girls’ softball team doesn’t spend the week relaxing at home—instead, they load up and head to Myrtle Beach for one of the most anticipated traditions of their season. Leaving behind Ohio’s unpredictable spring weather, the team trades cold mornings for warm sunshine, ocean air, and the chance to compete against strong teams from different areas. The trip isn’t just about softball—it’s about growing as players, building relationships, and making memories that last long after the season ends.
As the trip approaches each year, the excitement is hard to miss. Players talk about it at practice, count down the days, and look forward to everything from the games to the time spent together off the field. The long bus ride is filled with music, jokes, and laughter, setting the tone for a week that brings the team closer together. Once they arrive, it’s straight into game mode. Facing tough competition helps the players sharpen their skills and prepare for the challenges they’ll face once conference play begins back home.
This year’s Myrtle Beach trip brought plenty of energy and positive moments for the team. On the field, the players stayed focused and competitive, pushing themselves to improve with each game. Off the field, they made the most of their time together—whether that meant relaxing on the beach, exploring the area, or simply enjoying each other’s company. The mix of competition and fun created an experience that helped strengthen both their skills and their team chemistry.
Senior Mack Stowe said the trip is something the team looks forward to every year for many reasons. “Every year we look forward to playing in Myrtle Beach for numerous reasons such as the beautiful weather, the amount of games we can get in, and all of the bonding experiences we get to have together. I think this is a great tradition we have added every year and is a great opportunity to let loose, have fun, and get some games in before we start conference play.”
For Stowe, the trip is the perfect balance between preparation and enjoyment. The extra games give players valuable experience, while the relaxed setting allows them to take a step back, have fun, and grow closer as a team. That balance is what makes the trip such an important part of the season.
Senior Isabella Isenberg shared similar thoughts, especially when it comes to the memories made during the trip. “I’m so grateful that the softball team has had the opportunity to go to Myrtle Beach these past two years! The memories that we have made are priceless and unforgettable! Getting to play softball down there is a huge help as well since the competition down there is always very good! One of my favorite moments at the beach with my teammates is getting to go in the ocean with my teammates.”
For Isenberg, it’s those simple, joyful moments—like running going to the beach with her teammates—that stand out the most. While the games are important, it’s the time spent together that really makes the trip special and meaningful.
Even with a busy game schedule, the team finds ways to enjoy every part of the experience. Whether it’s walking along the beach after a long day, sharing meals together, or laughing about moments from the games, the players are constantly building stronger connections. These shared experiences help create trust and understanding, which carry over onto the field.
Junior Ella Collins believes that team bonding is one of the most important parts of the trip. “I think it is important that our team goes to Myrtle Beach each year because we grow deeper bonds with each other and we come back from Myrtle stronger than before.”
Collins’ perspective highlights what makes the trip so valuable. It’s not just about wins and losses—it’s about becoming a more unified team. The time spent together helps players learn more about each other, support one another, and develop the kind of chemistry that leads to success during the season.
By the time the team returns home, they bring back more than just game experience. They return with stronger friendships, better communication, and a renewed sense of confidence. The lessons learned in Myrtle Beach—both on and off the field—help set the tone for the rest of the season.
As conference play approaches, the Lakeview softball team is ready. Thanks to their time in Myrtle Beach, they’re not only more prepared to compete, but also more connected as a group. And while the trip may only last a week, its impact is felt throughout the entire season.
