Another cheer season is right around the corner after finishing football season, and the girls are ready. Following their outstanding performance during football season, the Lakeview freshman cheerleaders are moving on to basketball season. They put in a ton of work during the summer and in November, including conditioning, jump stretches, and learning dances/crowd cheers. The amount of work they put into cheer this year will benefit them during this season and in the upcoming cheer tryouts for their sophomore year. It can be a lot, switching from football cheer to basketball cheer in a short time because they have many differences. But with their new coach, Kendall Werschey, they will do great. The girls have good technique and great attitudes, which will get them through this season without a doubt.
The girls have put in a lot of effort and time to make sure that they are improving as well as having fun while cheering on our freshman teams.
Freshman cheerleader Leah Nowak states, “Practices are always fun, everyone works so hard. When someone is having a hard time with something, everyone is willing to help them improve.”
As Nowak stated, the girls have been putting in the time and effort to improve during the off-season. The girls have a couple of practices a week to work on cheers, quarter cheers, and dances, so that they are sure to know their routines at games. While doing this, the girls can have fun experiences, which makes cheerleading enjoyable for them!
The girls are all having new experiences while being in their first year of high school cheer. But the group has created a strong bond that makes the practices more enjoyable.
Freshman cheerleader Lily Duva said, “For it being my first year on the team, I’ve loved every second of it. The energy, the practices, the girls, everything has made this year unforgettable.”
Along with what Duva said, the freshman cheerleaders have shared many laughs and memories so far, which gives them more motivation for practices and improvement. While their coach is helping them improve, she is also letting them enjoy the experience. This year will shape their high school cheer career, and with one more season to go this school year, they can all say they have enjoyed every second of it so far.
They have all learned so much from each other this year, and they are excited to start the basketball season on a good note.
Freshman cheerleader Rylan Bland states, “This year has been amazing, the girls are so fun to cheer with. I learn so much from them, and I can’t wait to start the season with my best friends!”
As Bland stated, the girls have had a great year so far. Not only enjoying cheering on their teams, but creating friendships and bonding with their coaches for both seasons. They have all put in so much effort this year, which makes it easier for them to represent Lakeview cheer and be confident in what they are doing. This has been a great year for the girls, and they have made memories to last a lifetime.
Cheerleading is not all about how good you are or what tricks you can do; it’s also about building confidence and lasting friendships. From cheer, you develop important life skills such as leadership and discipline. Memorizing countless cheers and routines can be tricky, and practices can often get intense, requiring technique, strength, and focus. Coaches play a huge role in guiding the team, making sure the team looks good while also having fun and making progress. As their first high school basketball cheer season is around the corner, the girls grow more confident and skilled, ready to support their team. The girls have put so much time into what they do, and they hope to have a strong and fun season.
