Many people in this district, especially Lakeview’s seniors, have accomplished and standed as big role model’s for the future of this school. Senior Mallory Petrick, who is the current National Honor Society president and shows much interest in other extracurriculars like drama and band, is one of these seniors that is soon to reach the end of her journey at Lakeview.
Petrick reflects on her many years at Lakeview, emphasizing that extracurriculars have helped her so much later on in her high school career. She elaborates that electives and extracurriculars helped her so much more in other aspects of her life, “The power of being in electives and extracurricular activities has enabled me to apply for many scholarships and has broadened my school and job applications.”
Building connections in the community and Petrick’s personal life have made such a big difference for her. Petrick’s biggest influence had to be her parents, “My parents have always taught me that trying my best and working hard will pay off in the end, and that has been especially relevant this year when it comes to my next steps after high school.”
Petrick has taken much of this advice to heart in her academic classes, notably statistics, “Statistics class was pretty hard for me but I ended with a B in the class so everything workout out.”
By trying her best and working hard to the very end, Petrick has accomplished so much during her years at Lakeview. She has not only stayed hard working throughout her academics but also through her passions and extracurriculars. Petrick used these characteristics in various areas which makes her stand out among the rest.
Petrick expresses her love for marching band and many of her favorite moments were not just playing the flute but playing along side her friends and creating fun memories along the way, “Marching Band was an exceptionally time and effort consuming extracurricular however it is completely worth it to not only see what the band has accomplished by the end of the season, but to appreciate the small moments along the way.”
During her time being apart of Lakeview’s Band, Petrick had many fun moments with her band mates, most in particular, “Dancing with the other flutes during band class and going to Tennessee with the band.”
Band was more than just a class or extracurricular activity to Petrick, it was how she built many friendships and many memories that she can look back to later in her life.
Petrick has gotten the opportunity to be an active member and president of the National Honor Society for her senior year. An highlight of being apart of this organization was, “Becoming National Honor society president and giving a speech in front of the whole school.”
Being in the National Honor Society is an big accomplishment for not just Petrick but many other students.
Senior Mallory Kurtz and Mallory Petrick have an unstoppable friendship and it is so much more than just having the same name. Kurtz reflects on her and Petrick’s powerful friendship over the years, “Mallory Petrick has always been my best friend since kindergarten and I am eternally grateful for her. We have always been kind of a package deal because of our bond. Teachers often refer to us as ‘the Mallory’s’ or in math ‘Mallory Squared’ because we are always together. Overall she is my best friend and I’m so glad I’ve had her in my life and have the privilege of always being associated with her because of our names.”
As Petrick’s time at Lakeview is coming to a close, she is excited to share about her plans after high school, “My next mission is going to Kent State. I am equally terrified and thrilled.”
Not only has Petrick been a strong academic character at Lakeview but also in the surrounding community. Many accomplishments were made outside the walls of the Lakeview building, “I achieved my Girl Scout Gold Award and got accepted into Kent Honors College. I also have a really awesome job where I dress up as different characters for kids birthday parties!”
Congratulations to Mallory and sending the best of wishes for her as she embarks on the next step towards her future!
