Senior year is coming to an end so quickly, and as it comes to a close we like to highlight the exceptional students who have made this school what it is today. Through determination, creativity, leadership, and academic excellence, these students have shaped Lakeview into an amazing place to go to school. This Senior spotlight features Emily Mazur, a student who has truly made her mark.
Mazur has spent her time at Lakeview participating in many different activities around the school. She was in the drama club, a member of Assemble for Change, and even a section leader in the marching band.
As she wraps up her senior year, Mazur has had some time to reflect on some of her favorite moments: “My favorite club memory would be from the drama department, who I did hair and makeup for up until my junior year. Spending time with friends, doing what I love and creating a show is something I will never forget.”
Mazur has a lot of good memories from her years at Lakeview, she explained how much she enjoyed being in one specific club: “I really enjoyed being in Assemble For Change all years of my high school journey. I have helped the community and created change in and out of Lakeview.”
Throughout the last four years, Mazur has been apart of the schools marching band. During this time she worked up to being a section leader in the marching band. She has reflected on how much she enjoys being a leader in the marching band.
Mazur explains, “My most heroic moment of my senior year is getting to be a section and squad leader to 3 freshmen in marching band. Watching them look up to me showed a full circle moment in my wonderful years in the Lakeview marching band.”
She has had many role models in the past four years, but only a few stuck: “My teacher super hero would be Mrs Schlatt because she finds a way to brighten my day and put a smile on my face at 8 am. She connects with me, helps with anything I’m struggling with and is always my energy drink twin!”
Additionally she mentioned, “People that inspired and influenced me through high school were definitely the seniors that graduated each year before me. Watching them succeed and go through the “real world” has been such an inspiration.”
Mazur has surrounded herself with an amazing group of friends. One in particular, Senior Mallory Kurtz reflected on Mazur and their friendship. Kurtz explained,“Emily has been one of my closest friends my entire life and I am extremely grateful for her. She is always there when I need her and is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I’m so proud of her and can’t wait to see where the future takes her.”
Another notable friend, Senior DJ Godfrey said,“Emily Mazur is an extremely caring and thoughtful individual, she is always looking out for others and is there when you need her. Emily has been one of my best friends for years now and I wouldn’t know high school without her.”
Mazur took time to reflect on all that she has learned in high school, and only one lesson really impacted her: “I have learned how to be less anxious of new opportunities like clubs and making new friends throughout my years at Lakeview high school.”
When looking towards the future and deciding whats next, Mazur knew exactly what her plans are: “I will be starting an advanced manicuring class at the Aveda Casal Institute in Niles Ohio to become a Licensed nail tech! I am so excited to fulfill my dream in the fall!”
As she prepares to graduate, Mazur leaves behind the legacy of a great leader and friend.
