With the end of the school year soon approaching, Freddie Coombs, a Senior at Lakeview High is preparing for graduation and getting ready to open the door to a different path.
Coombs has enjoyed Lakeview over the years whether that’s at a football game or just having a conversation with his friends in class. Though he hasn’t been involved in any sports his high school career he played back in middle school and was very athletic, he could run the ball and also make many tackles.
With Coombs approaching the end of his senior year, he reflects on the great memories he has made during his time at Lakeview. Freddie mentions that he enjoyed the presence of his science teacher, Maureen Bucko. Coombs emphasizes, “Miss Bucko was my favorite teacher, I had her both Junior and Senior year and she was always very nice and helpful whenever I didn’t fully understand something.” Having a nice and helpful teacher can make a big difference for many students, this allows them to look up to someone and always know that there is someone there if you need them.
During Coombs’ time at Lakeview, he has enjoyed spending time with friends in class and have unforgettable conversations. Coombs mentions “I always enjoyed laughing and talking with my friends in class and I will always remember how fun this was for me.” Building strong friendships in high school is very important because this will allow you to develop not only social skills but also emotional skills such as communication, trust, and empathy. Having a good group of friends can also make the school years more enjoyable and help students feel a sense of acceptance.
Coombs has made many friendships throughout his time at Lakeview, but two stood out to him. Coombs notes that Haiden Shardy and Matthew Leonard are the top of his “superhero friends”.
When asked about Coombs, Shardy stated, “Me and Freddie have been friends for as long as I remember and he has always been a great friend to spend time with whether that’s inside or outside of school”. Friendships are very important because they provide you with someone to look up to, talk with, etc. Friends accept you for who you are and are very beneficial for pushing you to always do better.
Leonard offered a similar perspective, stating, “Freddie has always made me laugh with his humor and I really enjoy our friendship.” Leonard’s words highlight how genuine Coombs is and show us how he brought laughter to his friends. Again, friends make the high school experience much better than without them.
There are many different school events that have taken place during Coombs time at high school such as the football games, pep rallies, prom, etc. Ultimately these events marked milestones in Coombs journey all the way from being a kindergartner to now being a senior. Coombs notes that, “The most legendary school event that I would consider being the most thrilling would be when I am walking down the stage during my graduation because this officially marks the end of my journey at Lakeview High school.” Graduating can be a very emotional but exciting time for many students because though it marks the end of our journey it now opens a new door to a different journey in your life. The thought of leaving friends behind can be very hard and knowing that this time will never come back is very eye opening.
Overall, Coombs has had many great and memorable moments during his time at Lakeview. Coombs has decided to join a PIA program located at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. He is very excited for this opportunity and plans to become an aviation mechanic once he receives his Airframe and Powerplant license. Congratulations with all your accomplishments at Lakeview and we wish you the best of luck at aviation school, Freddie!
