As we wrap up our senior year for our 2026 class, Lakeview High School is proud to represent our outstanding seniors and everything they’ve accomplished. The Senior Spotlight series honors students who have demonstrated dedication, leadership, and perseverance which ultimately represents the true meaning of being a Bulldog. This week’s Senior Spotlight features Maya Figueroa, a student who is known for her outstanding academic success, involvement in a variety of clubs, and inspiring leadership among many of her peers. Her positive attitude and willingness to support her peers have made her a memorable person here at Lakeview.
Figueroa has been a leader in many of her activities throughout Lakeview and has had many academic achievements. She is Band Council president, Assemble for Change Vice President, National Honor Society Treasurer, a member of the Senior Executive Committee, and a Drama Club member. Her ability to balance academics and extracurricular activities has made her a role model for the younger students surrounding her.
Figueroa has been in many different activities throughout her high school years that have shaped her into the person she is today. Reflecting on her years at Lakeview, she shares one of her favorite memories, “My favorite memory throughout high school would have to be from marching band. Every year, we would spend a total of five days at Hiram College. At the time, it felt like the worst thing ever, but looking back now, all I remember is the amazing memories I made while being around some of my closest friends.”
Even though Figueroa had a relatively smooth senior year, she still faced obstacles along the way. Figueroa describes her biggest kryptonite this year, “The strongest kryptonite I faced this year was figuring out what I want to do in my future. For most of my time in high school, I thought I would attend college for biology, hoping to become a doctor. But halfway through my senior year, only weeks before early action applications were due, I began to question everything. My heart was not into that field, and it led me on a long journey of discovering what I really wanted to do. Eventually, with the help of those around me, I found what I wanted to do with my future, which is to pursue a career in the field of law.”
As Figueroa finishes off her final semester at Lakeview, she reflects on what she will miss most: “One thing I will miss most about Lakeview is being able to see my friends every day and making fun memories.”
As her high school journey comes to an end, she spreads a piece of advice for the future generation of Lakeview Bulldogs: “The biggest piece of wisdom that I would like to pass on is that you should take every opportunity you can and make the most out of your time in high school, both inside and outside the classroom.”
Despite Figueroa leaving behind lifelong memories and friendships with the people at Lakeview, Figueroa looks forward to her future with dedication and excitement. “My next mission in life is to pursue a degree in political science and eventually attend law school. Thinking about this new adventure now makes me nervous, but overall I am excited and hopeful for my future.”
Figueroa has fully represented the true spirit behind being a Lakeview Bulldog. Through every club, class, or obstacle, she has served not only as a leader but also as a friend. Her drive and resilience will leave a lasting mark on Lakeview High School for years to come. Lakeview High School will always remember her impact and wish her the very best as she embarks on this new chapter of her life.
