As we soon approach the spring and the end of this school year, it’s important to reflect on the seniors that will soon be graduating. In the article, we will be honoring Sam Chapman, a senior that has done many noteworthy things throughout his high school career, with some being very remarkable.
For starters, he is a proud member of the Lakeview Symphonic, Jazz, and Marching bands, in which he plays a vast array of saxophones.
When recalling some of his favorite memories with the band, Chapman stated, “Something that I will always remember about Lakeview will be the football games. Sure, Lakeview’s football team is far from anything notable, but to me, it was never about losing or winning. It was all about having fun with the band and making jokes with each other or making fun of bad refs. When Senior night came, and Lakeview lost, I wasn’t sad about the loss, but about the fact that the moment was one of the last times I will ever walk up and down that field with my class.”
Sam has made several close friends in Band that share the same instrument.
Chapman revealed, “[My closest friends are] Logan Hartman and Bradley Cluckey- even though our trio was not created until last school year, we have bonded so much and made so many memories in these past two years”
Outside of school, the band has also been a big factor in Sam’s life, and it was also the result of one of his favorite school trips.
Chapman stated, “My junior year, the band went to Tennessee. We got to perform outside of the Country Hall of Fame and perform around Graceland. We also got to watch a show in the Grand Ole Opry as well as view and walk inside the house of Elvis Presley.”
As you can see, the Band has made a huge impact on Sam during his time at Lakeview, and he has strong aspirations for his future studies.
Chapman noted, “I plan on attending YSU for a degree in music education.”
Additionally, Sam participates in runs distance in both Cross Country and Track & Field, and says how much of a huge impact it’s had on him.
Chapman revealed, “A teacher I view as a hero is Mr. Voorhies, my cross country and track coach. Mr. Voorhies is not only a good teacher, but is an exceptionally good coach for track and cross country. He has kept me motivated enough to continue doing what I can for the track and cross country teams.”
Sam has also had an impact on his team.
One of his teammates, Senior Zane Johnson, says, “Sam is an intelligent and kind person. He’s always there for his teammates, and a good role model for the team.”
There have been a lot of people in Sam’s life that constantly helped push him forward.
Chapman stated, “Some people who have inspired me throughout my high school journey would be my brothers. My brothers have been a strong source of inspiration whether it be with a sport or just general inspiration. I would not be where I am today without them.”
Furthermore, Sam recalled his favorite school memory, and it happened directly before going into high school.
Chapman noted, “My favorite in class memory took place in this high school, but it happened when I was in eighth grade; the final day of eighth grade to be exact. On this day, my class walked from the middle school to the high school and sat in the auditorium for our little ceremony. That day was when the reality of me becoming a high schooler really hit me. I will never forget that ceremony and the walk to and from high school.”
Let’s wish Sam good luck in his future endeavours!
