As graduation approaches, Lakeview High School takes pride in recognizing the class of 2026 students who have made a lasting impact on the school community. One of those students is senior Kai Julia Marinkovich, whose involvement, character, and growth over the past 4 years have left a meaningful mark on Lakeview.
Throughout her time at Lakeview, Marinkovich has been deeply involved in both the arts and academics. She has contributed to the school through band and the arts, serving on band council, on stage performing for drama, and even behind the scenes with working in costumes. These activities allowed her to express creativity while also building strong connections with others. Known for her intelligence and dedication, Marinkovich challenged herself with a lot of course work, including many difficult college-level classes during many band nights, marching practices, and football games.
Reflecting on her High School journey, Marinkovich shared, “If I could travel back to the start of high school, I would focus less on getting perfect grades and focus more on connecting with those around me.”
Marinkovich has experienced not only academic growth but also personal growth. Over the years, she has developed strong time management skills, which she describes to be one of the most valuable “superpowers” she has gained through High School. This ability has helped her balance school responsibilities with her personal life more effectively.
Marinkovich credits Physics teacher Maureen Bucko as a major source of support during her time at Lakeview, “Mrs. Bucko as throughout the year, she has been a constant adult figure to provide guidance and support. She presents the material in a way that doesn’t feel overwhelming while also always being there to help, even with non-physics related issues.”
As her college physics teacher, Bucko challenged Marinkovich academically while giving her constant encouragement. Even in a demanding and time-consuming class, Bucko always made it manageable, which Marinkovich appreciated.
One of the moments Kai looked forward to most during her senior year was the final band night. Performing in a new setting made the experience especially memorable, marking a conclusion to her time in the program one to look back on. Another major accomplishment she highlights is finishing calculus, a class she describes as “one of her biggest challenges.” Balancing a schedule filled with advanced classes wasn’t easy, but she came out stronger because of it, disregarding the sleepless nights.
Marinkovich’s friends describe her as someone truly unique. Her friend freshman Noah Kundel says, “She is a character. You can’t explain her even—very laid back and very straightforward and caring. You can always talk to her; she always has the perfect reply for any answer. She’s a great friend to have.”
Her friend senior DJ Godfrey shared a memory that highlights Marinkovich’s impact, saying, “The most memorable saga that Kai and I had at Lakeview has to be our trip with the band to Nashville. This trip was full of side quests and memories that will stick with me, but the hours spent on the bus to and from our destinations are what I won’t ever forget.”
Marinkovich also played a role in creating meaningful experiences for others, such as helping with preparations for the Warren Pride Parade through GSA club. What started as a small, improvised school group, has since grown into a community effort, showing how her involvement has helped shape activities that will continue even after she graduates.
When asked what she will miss most about Lakeview, Marinkovich simply said, “The familiarity.” After years of building friendships and Dunkin routines, it’s the sense of comfort and community that stands out the most.
Looking ahead, Marinkovich plans to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio to study Psychiatry. As she prepares for this next chapter, she shares, “I am going to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio to study psychiatry. As most people feel about college, it’s a terrifying but exciting experience.”
Kai Julia Marinkovich represents what it means to grow, adapt, and make a difference during High School. Through her involvement, strong academic mark, and meaningful connections, she has left a lasting legacy at Lakeview. As she prepares for her next chapter, there is no doubt she will continue to make an impact wherever she goes. We wish you good luck, Kai!!
