As graduation approaches, Lakeview High School continues to celebrate the students who have helped shape the Bulldog community through their involvement, determination, and positive impact on those around them. One of those students is senior Tru Campbell, whose passion for music, appreciation for others, and thoughtful outlook on life have made a lasting impact throughout her years at Lakeview.
During her time at Lakeview, Campbell became heavily involved in the arts, especially in the Lakeview Band, where she found not only an outlet but also a close-knit community that became one of the most important parts of her high school experience.
Through marching band and concert band, Campbell formed countless friendships and memories that she says will stay with her forever.
Reflecting on those experiences, Campbell shared, “I will most remember my time with the Lakeview Band. It is such a caring community of people constantly working toward a similar goal, and I feel so proud to have been a part of that.”
Looking back on her high school journey, Campbell says she wishes she had understood earlier that life does not always need to be perfectly planned out. “I wish I would have known that it’s okay to welcome change and to not always have everything figured out, and also that remaining present with your friends, family, and school life is so valuable,” she explained.
Over the years, Campbell learned to embrace uncertainty and appreciate the people and experiences around her instead of holding onto the past, something many upcoming senior Bulldogs could listen to and learn from. That mindset became especially important during her senior year as she balanced academics with making major decisions about college and her career path.
One of the biggest struggles Campbell faced this year was figuring out what she wanted her future to look like after graduation. Like many seniors, the pressure of college decisions and planning for adulthood can feel overwhelming at times. However, through that challenge, she learned an important lesson about growth and self-trust.
“A lot of the year I was scared that I would not have anything figured out,” Campbell said, “but what I learned is that it’s okay to not always have everything planned out and to just take a breath and live a little instead of being stuck in the future.”
Outside of academics and band, the people around Campbell have played a major role in shaping her high school experience. She credits her close friends as some of her biggest inspirations, saying they constantly encourage her to become the best version of herself she can be. Campbell adds, “My superheroes this year have most definitely been my close friends. I have surrounded myself with people who really get me and only make me a better person.”
Another important influence in Campbell’s life has been her mom, whom she describes as her “adult superhero.” Whether encouraging her to pursue new opportunities or simply being someone to spend time with, Campbell says her mom has always been her number one supporter. From theater outings to ice cream trips, their bond has remained a source of comfort and motivation throughout high school. While speaking about her mom, Campbell says, “She is the person who helps me keep working toward my goals and the person I can enjoy theater with, and I am so grateful for her.”
Among all of her memories at Lakeview, Campbell says one of her favorite experiences was participating in band camp, this time a senior. After spending years watching upperclassmen take part in traditions and activities, she finally got to experience those moments herself. She explained that band camp has its own unique way of bringing people together and creating friendships that last beyond high school.
Campbell looks back on her time at camp, stating, “Band camp is a hard week of practicing, but it has so many amazing moments, and to pass that on to a new group of people who will be making just as many amazing memories is something really special to me.”
When asked what she will miss about Lakeview, Campbell immediately pointed to the teachers who have had an impact on her life. She expressed gratitude for the support and encouragement she has received, explaining that the staff at Lakeview are always willing to help. Campbell adds that this sense of support is something she will miss after walking the stage.
Following graduation, Campell plans to attend West Virginia University, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Excited to begin this next chapter, she looks forward to the opportunities, experiences, and people she will encounter along the way.
Through her kindness, involvement, and ability to appreciate the world around her, Tru Campbell has made her mark on Lakeview High School. Through music, friendships, and the positivity she brings to others, Campbvell represents the spirit of the Bulldog community, and there is no doubt she will continue to make an impact wherever life takes her. Good luck, Tru!
